MEET DANIELA VILLEGAS HAYEK

_-16

To know her is to love her. I met her years ago when I first moved to Los Angeles. She is the love of a friend, now his beautiful wife. Daniela is classically elegant, sophisticated and has a mind anyone at a dinner party would be feverishly fortunate to be planted next to.

She is graceful, insightful, and full of precious wisdom, gorgeously curious and has heart that beams like her smile. Her laugh is contagious and her love for her family makes you want to hop on a plane to Mexico and drink, laugh, eat and thank them for creating her into the lovely woman she has become.

Her art, her jewelry creations are magnificent. You can actually feel the love she made them with. The sister-in-law to the talented Salma Hayek, she has grown her art into a sought after accessory for red carpet events. She has, and I have no doubt will continue to warm hearts and continue to be a well-respected artisan among the finest. Besos sweet, D…You can find her exquisite creations at www.danielavillegas.com

We had been given a viciously hot day in Topanga to shoot on the mountain I knew I wanted to capture her on. We had a rock star team–the ever talented celebrity make-up guru Ermahn Ospina (www.ermahnospina.com) and equally acclaimed hair talent of Alan Martinez. We had a ridiculously fun time collaborating and I’m proud to say it shows…

DLV :: DID YOU FIND YOUR CAREER OR DID IT FIND YOU? HOW? WHEN? WHERE? WHY?

DVH :: This career has embraced me all along.  It has found me even when I have had to put it aside for a while. I feel blessed with the opportunity to have my hobby, my passion, career and business be the same.

DLV :: WHERE WERE YOU RAISED? WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT IT?

DVH :: I was born and raised in Mexico City.  All my family is there, I was raised with a strong connection to my roots and heritage, to love our culture, the colors, food and people. I had a really fun and nice childhood.I miss my family and some friends, but being honest Mexico is always in my heart and it is easy to travel to my hometown. L.A. is home for me now and I just love it, its a place that I feel safe and a city that has given me the opportunity to expand in so many levels, to focus on myself, in my family, my work,……  is “happyland” for me.

DLV :: NAME THREE PEOPLE YOU ADMIRE AND WHY.

DVH :: My dad (Rafael). He has taught me that life is joy, that we should laugh about ourselves. To not waste time storing material things, to use our energy and love to accumulate experiences that will make us better human beings. He still teaches me that life is a win/win situation no matter what, to enjoy everyday!

My great-grandmother (Ita). She was the woman that inspired me to become a jewelry designer, the chicest woman I’ve ever met. She was a strong, passionate, lovely, fun woman that touched the heart of every member of my family.

Brothers Grimm::Storytellers of classic fairytales. I admire them because they loved what they do, you can feel the passion for their work.  They have inspired in one way or another a collective consciousness.  Their stories makes us dream, to believe that nothing is impossible.   Their stories are a reminder for me to keep our heart like a kid, to enjoy simple things and have fun.

DLV :: IN THREE WORDS DESCRIBE LIFE.

DVH :: Beautiful, sharing, magic

DLV :: WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FEAR?

DVH :: My greatest fear is not to have the courage to engage and explore new things or experiences I want to include in my life.  To lose the capacity to savor “life”.

DLV :: WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST LOVE?

DVH :: The light! From the sun that gives me love and energizes me everyday, to the light of the humans, animals and plants that my heart have connected with.  We all have a light that sparks within endlessly.

I believe that even if we die, that trace of light that we make in life will never disappear, is going to be there forever, hugging and shining permanently in the universe.

DLV :: IN AN IMAGINARY WORLD, JUST BY WALKING BY YOU, STRANGER’S COULD ACCESS ONE PIECE OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT YOU THAT YOU WANTED THEM TO KNOW MOST. WHAT IS IT?

DVH :: That life is a powerful and joyful journey.

MEET TANJA DJELEVIC

_-41

Everyone loves a beautiful woman, but few can recognize, handle or appreciate one with a brilliant mind, a body sculpted by self-love, and a spirit that shines like the sun. Ladies and gentleman, I give you, my astrological Aquarius soul sister, Tanja. Serbian and Swedish, this exotic blend does a mind, body, and spirit better than good. She can light up a room with her smile and enjoys a good laugh like no one (except myself) that I know.  En route to our shoot in Malibu we covered everything from feminism to religion to politics to the unparalleled conscious way Sweden supports parents in bonding with their newborn babies. Throughout our day we laughed, shared and moved through each image like a seamless dance of collaboration. It was effortless, enjoyable, and unforgettable. We had the enormous pleasure of having make-up done by the ridiculously talented Stacey Rae Gibbs and hair by the gifted Michelle Rene. Merci beaucoup to all!

                                                 ……………………………………………………………………

Tanja is one of USA’s and Europe’s most sought after physical trainers. She has trained everyone from Pink, Uma Thurman, Kate Beckinsdale to Jennifer Garner and Marisa Tomei. She is also the star of Sweden’s Biggest Loser and you’ll find it hard to find someone in our own town of Los Angeles whom doesn’t know or love her. You can follow, tweet, Facebook, connect or train with her, just visit www.tanjadjelevic.com. Tell her I sent you 🙂

                                                 ……………………………………………………………………

DLV :: DID YOU FIND YOUR VOCATION OR DID IT FIND YOU? HOW? WHEN? WHERE? WHY?

T :: I think it sort of found me.I was in a dance play in a small theatre when I was 7, had dance groups, performed as often as I could to reluctant audiences like parents etc, competed in folkloric dances, competed in track and field when i was 14, trained at a gym since I was 16.

Moving was my Therapy, My Happy Place, My Trusted Companion, My Giggles…my everything! But I studied human behavior and languages in school– Psychology, Philosophy, Languages and Writing were my favorite and strongest subjects and with my Serbian parents pushing, I really thought I was going to become some sort of Journalist (which my brother is now). They were raised in a Communist former Yugoslavia, where a real vocation was that…or to be a doctor.

When i finally came to America, I had an instant opportunity to frolic with the Big Names of Fitness, just out of pure luck!!! At this point I had been teaching group fitness classes and Dance for years back home, but coming to the city where everything happens, was life changing! Somehow, even after 7 years of Psychology studies, the perfect fusion of what my job now consists of, was born. Offering my guidance and knowledge to whoever needs it, to help them find their inner voice, help them take care of their physical bodies (cuz thats where we live every day), and use it all to Live their best Lives, anyway They find suitable.

DLV :: WHERE WERE YOU RAISED? WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT IT?

T :: I was born and raised in the south of Sweden. My parents are from the Balkans, Serbia and Montenegro to be more precise, so I was raised with a strong connection to my roots. I miss Swedish summers, when nature bursts in full bloom all at the same time, and Swedes get so childlike! So HAPPY to see the sun! Also Swedes are very sweet. And smart! And damn Funny. Yes, I miss that. hahaha.

DLV :: NAME THREE PEOPLE YOU ADMIRE AND WHY.

T :: My Dad – He went through so much grief and hardship in life, but still he greeted the day with a smile on his face and the look of being up to no good in his eyes–haha (it was contagious).

Tasso – A greek man and friend of mine from my childhood days, who through his all-inclusive and heart felt ways befriended the whole community where I grew up.

Martin Luther King JR – for passionately fighting for what he believed in, and with that passion he created change.

DLV :: IN THREE WORDS DESCRIBE LIFE.

T :: Beautiful. Funny. Giving.

DLV :: WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FEAR?

T :: To somehow not be grateful enough for all of this. To not be loved for who I am-naked and bare.

DLV:: WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST LOVE?

T :: To feel that I am a part of something bigger and meaningful. I love when people show love and gratitude in surprising situations.

DLV :: IN AN IMAGINARY WORLD, JUST BY WALKING BY YOU, STRANGER’S COULD ACCESS ONE PIECE OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT YOU THAT YOU WANTED THEM TO KNOW MOST. WHAT IS IT?

T :: I feel like I sort of am what you are, and vice versa. And of course, any kind of dancing makes me reeeeeeally friggin happy!!

MEET SERENA ROJAS KINCHLA

_-29

Oh, Serena, my beautiful mutual friend. I met her years ago   in a smoke-filled music venue on the lower East Side of NYC. She was gorgeous and married to a rock star. I was young and enamored. It was fleeting, not sure if we even spoke long or at all after being introduced. Flash forward to Facebook years later and voilà! There she was! Now, a mama of two, still stunning and creating a life and film around her love for children, traveling and consciousness. We connected. I gave birth to a new photography project entitled GODDESSES and I knew I had to capture her. She is the Hindu goddess and the Burning Man hotness–the wise, pensive, brilliant mind and the proud owner of a strong, honest, piercing heart. I am thrilled because I think you can truly feel these vibrations through the images we manifested.

                                                    ……………………………………………………………..

DLV :: DID YOU FIND YOUR CAREER OR DID IT FIND YOU? HOW? WHEN? WHERE? WHY?

S :: I studied Marine Biology for 4 years in high school between the ages 14 and 17. I loved it and was planning to continue that field into college. Visions of dolphins being my friends and saving the whales.

However, when I was 17 in 12th grade, Bruce Weber was scouting for locations for his latest Calvin Klein campaigns. He visited my house for a possible setting and saw a photo of me. I suppose he thought I was pretty or something. Next thing I knew I was shooting with him along side of about 40 other models. Models I had seen in magazines so I was nervous and felt really out of place. He works like a mad scientist, combining people together and shooting loads of film, none of us knowing who will land the campaign in the end. To my startling surprise, I was chosen for the 3 Calvin Klein ads, placed on billboards and magazines across the country. He changed my life. Made me make a left turn instead of a right. Thank you Bruce, otherwise I may be studying plankton in a white coat in a lab somewhere. So at 17, I moved from the pristine setting of Santa Barbara to NYC. I was fortunate to travel the world for 10 years as a model, doing magazines and commercials. The world has been my greatest teacher, different cultures inspire me to my core, awe me, and keep my inner light shining (as fruity as that may sound).

Because of the commercial work I dabbled in, I decided to move Los Angeles to try acting. I quickly landed a role on “Days of Our Lives” for 1 and a half years. Hats off to all the soap stars today. Wow it’s a lot of work!

With my love of travel and discovering new places, it naturally evolved for me to create my present project. I just completed a film and a book for children titled, “The Magic Ball”. Being untrained in filmmaking yet holding onto a dream, I grabbed my video camera and set off. All I knew was that I wanted to make something for kids and big kids as well, to be able see other children around our planet through music and dance. Music is my life force as well. I wanted to bring the world and great music into our children’s living rooms. Magically it all came together, after about 4 years of work to complete. It has recently won many awards which I still can’t believe! One of my favorite reviews is “the cinematography is outstanding!” That makes me laugh.

So if anyone ever says to you, “you can’t do it”, don’t believe them; because you can!

DLV :: WHERE WERE YOU RAISED? WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT IT?

S :: I was raised in Santa Barbara, California. I lived there until I was 17 and honestly I don’t miss much about it. The time I lived there was absolutely perfect but I’m a different person now, it’s far too quiet and not varied enough. My wonderful friends I grew up with are still in my life and my beautiful family by my side.

DLV :: NAME THREE PEOPLE YOU ADMIRE AND WHY.

S :: Osho- the greatest philosopher and teacher. I regularly go to his ashram in India which is truly is home away from home. There I have learned meditation and letting go of the past and to be here in the now. No time like the present, right?

Bill Hicks- a true prophet through comedy. No one has ever come close to delivering the straight truth, with wit and humor. Bill’s timing and message is mind blowing. I wish is he had lived longer so we could hear his rants about the political mayhem today.

Jerry Garcia- Like all teenagers I was a searcher, searching for something intangible I suppose. Thanks to “The Grateful Dead” I had many “mind-expanding” experiences and came to realize there is nothing outside ourselves to search for, it’s all inside us already and we are all connected in this beautiful tapestry that we call life.

DLV :: IN THREE WORDS DESCRIBE LIFE.

S :: Miraculous, ever-changing, and humorous.

DLV :: WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FEAR?

S :: Dying a long slow painful death with my family watching and mourning. Yuck. Pull the plug please

DLV :: WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST LOVE?

S :: My 2 incredible boys, that feeling inside me when I’m doing something creative and I’m so enthralled in it there is no sense of time and all of YOU of course

DLV :: IN AN IMAGINARY WORLD, JUST BY WALKING BY YOU, STRANGER’S COULD ACCESS ONE PIECE OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT YOU THAT YOU WANTED THEM TO KNOW MOST. WHAT IS IT?

S :: That I know nothing and I’m very clumsy. So if I stumble while you’re walking by, please try and catch me.

And to quote Bill Hicks: “Life is only a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves.”
